The G8 countries, the European Union (UE) and the great emerging potencies, like Brazil, China and Mexico, yesterday, in Rome, an agreement for change of information and experience as theme to energy efficiency.
The agreement was signed to the margin of the meeting of ministers of Energy of G8, in the which you/they asked that the countries follow investing in energy to avoid supply problems and the discharge in the prices, especially of the petroleum, at the end of the economic crisis. The statutes of the International Association for the Cooperation in Energy Efficiency (Ipeec, in English) they were firm by the countries of G8, UE and for Brazil, China, Korea of the South and Mexico.
The initiative of Ipeec was thrown in 2008, under the Japanese presidency of G8, and “it will be the priority platform to share the experiences of our countries as regards to efficiency”, the Italian minister of the Economic development, Claudio Scajola, host of the encounter said. Scajola detached some “great lines” of cooperation among the signatory governments: “technologies of low carbon dioxide emission, investments in the construction sections and transports, and reception and carbon dioxide storage.”
About the appeal of G8-United States, Canada, Grã-Britain, France, Italy, Japan, Germany and Russia-so that a rhythm of investments is maintained in the energy section, Scajola defended “an alliance between the companies and States seeking to overcome the crisis.” “The investments in new energy projects and in new technologies they were postponed or annulled due to the uncertainty in the finance markets and to the reduction of the demand”, he/she lamented the Italian minister. “But, when it finishes the crisis, there will be the risk that the offer of energy is insufficient and that the prices are high and unstable.”
Due to the reduction of the investments, “there is certain concern on the medium term offer lack” and of elevation of the prices, he/she noticed the executive director of the International Agency of Energy (AIE), Nobuo Tanaka. AIE presented in Rome a second report which the investments in the search and petroleum production and gas 21% fell this year in relation to 2008. According to the report of AIE, the investments in renewable energy 38% will fall in 2009.

Campaign promotes roof painting to reduce global heating
Although the record of heat reached by São Paulo in the last week, since last month, a called campaign One Degree Less (A Degree the Least) it points a solution relatively simple to reduce the temperature inside the houses and, of break, to reduce the global heating in 1ºC: to paint roofs of white.
Created by GBC (Green Building Council), an entity that globally promotes the use of maintainable technologies in the building site, the campaign bases on a scientific study of Berkeley Lab., linked laboratory to the Department of Energy of the USA.
In agreement with that study, the painting of roofs and superior flagstones with clear colors reduces the temperature inside the constructions in about 6°C, because the white contemplates up to 90% of the solar rays, while the common ceramic tile absorbs that same percentage of heat.
As consequence, the linked energy consumption to the cooling of the atmospheres (air conditioning and fans) it decreases between 20% and 70%, which, for his/her time, it reduces the emission of CO2 in the atmosphere.
"If 30% to 40% of the roofs of the world are painted, the temperature of the Earth could fall in 1°C, for that the name of the campaign", Married Marcos, technical manager of GBC says.
But some paint hands would be so effective to the point of to help in a problem as complex how much the heating of the planet?
Architects heard by the Leaf do safeguards, but they are categorical when affirming that to paint the roofs and even walls that have high solar incidence reduce 'of form impactante' the room temperatures.

Prostate risk of cancer increases with artificial light
The men of countries with larger levels of artificial light have more probability of suffering prostate cancer, second a study published by the University of Haifa, in Israel. In agreement with the research, that situation is due to you factor as the suppression of the melanin production and to the effect negative tax to the biological clock, that it confuses day and night. The influence of the artificial light was analyzed in three cancer types in men: prostate, lungs and large intestine, using data of incidence of the diseases in 164 countries.
To determine the illumination levels, images of the Program of Meteorological Satellite of Defense were used and another varied as electric consumption, urban population percentage and socioeconomic level. It was detected that, in the countries with low exhibition to the electric light, 67 of each 100 thousand men suffered prostate cancer, against 87 of the countries with average exhibition (about 30% the more) and 157 us of high exhibition (approximately 80% the more).
